CASE STUDY: HEDGE CUTTING

Hedge Cut Back to Free Up a Path and Back Gate

This hedge had grown out so far it had taken the whole path with it, so the only way the owner could get to his own back gate was to walk across the lawn.
About two hours
£220 with waste
3 foot off the top
Lawn cut for £30
The job

What we walked into

It hadn't been touched in a good while: straggly, out of shape and so wide it had swallowed the path. He didn't have the time or the machines to pull it back himself.

He sent a couple of photos, left the gate open and we went and had a look. Three foot came off the top, the sides were rolled back in so it doesn't look straggly, the path was cleared and the lawn was cut.

How we did it

Step by step

  1. Quote from photos

Priced from a couple of photos, then checked on site.

  2. Top down

About three foot off the top.

  3. Roll the sides

Sides cut back in at a slight angle so the hedge stays thick at the bottom.

  4. Path and lawn

Path cleared, lawn cut and all the waste taken away.

Worth knowing

Why the sides go in at an angle

A hedge that's slightly narrower at the top than the bottom lets light reach the lower branches, so it stays thick at the base instead of going bare and leggy.

Sending a couple of photos is the quickest way to get a price. Most jobs like this are quoted the same day.
