What a garden clearance covers

What we clear

A garden clearance is the big reset. It's for gardens that have gone past a normal tidy up and need cutting right back before anyone can use or maintain them again.

Brambles, nettles and weeds

Cut down and cleared from beds, borders, banks and the back corners nobody's been near in years.

Long grass and rough ground

Waist high grass knocked back with heavy brushcutters, then cut down so it can be mowed again.

Overgrown hedges and shrubs

Reduced in height and width, or cut back hard to low stumps where they've taken over.

Ivy and climbers

Pulled off fences, walls and sheds and cut back at the base, so you can see what's underneath.

All green waste taken away

Loaded onto the van and taken to a licensed site. No skip, no tip runs, no piles left behind.

A proper finish

Paths and patios blown off and the whole area raked over, so it's ready to use or ready to maintain.

What a clearance doesn't include

  • Digging out roots or grinding stumps. We cut back to ground level or low stumps only.
  • Tree felling or anything that needs climbing or rope work. We'll point you to a qualified arborist.
  • Household rubbish, building waste or anything hazardous, like asbestos. Green waste only.
  • Turfing or new planting. We quote that separately, see planting and turfing.

Filmed from start to finish

Most of our big clearances are filmed, so you can see exactly how we work before you book.

This one was a widow's overgrown woodland garden, with no idea what was under the brambles until we got there.

Clearance or tidy up?

Which one do you need?

If the garden still basically works and just looks scruffy, a garden tidy up is quicker and cheaper. If you can't get down the path, it's a clearance.

Not sure which one you need? Here's the difference. Send us photos and we'll tell you straight.

How it works

From jungle to garden in four steps

  1. Tell us about it

Fill in the quote form, ring us, or text a few photos. Rough size and where it is helps.

  2. Free site visit

We come and look properly, check access and waste, and flag anything like nesting birds.

  3. Fixed written quote

One clear price that spells out what's included and what isn't. No hourly surprises.

  4. Clearance day

We clear it, take the waste away, tidy up after ourselves and can send you photos of the finished job.

Your waste, done legally

Why a registered waste carrier matters

A clearance creates a lot of waste, and in Wales you're legally responsible for where it ends up. Under the household waste duty of care you must only hand your waste to someone registered to carry it. If it gets fly-tipped by someone who isn't, you can be fined £300 or prosecuted.

Natural Resources Wales warns that cheap, cash-in-hand waste removal found on social media is how a lot of fly-tipping starts. As a guide, they say a legitimate carrier charges around £166 for a van load, so a price far below that is a red flag. You can read their guidance for householders in full.

Waste removal is priced on your quote, or included when you book a whole day. Either way the green waste goes to a licensed site, and we're happy to put our registration number on your receipt.

Who books a clearance

Gardens we bring back

Inherited and empty houses

Getting the garden back under control before a sale or a let, often for families who live away and can't be there.

Landlords and letting agents

Clearing a garden between tenancies so the next tenant starts with a clean slate.

You've just moved in

Bought a house with a jungle out the back? We'll clear it so you can actually see what you've got to work with.

Land that's got away from you

Overgrown strips, banks and plots on the edge of your property, cut back and kept under control.

Wildlife first

Nesting birds and clearance timing

Overgrown gardens are exactly where birds like to nest. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it's an offence to damage or destroy an active nest, and the RSPB recommends avoiding hedge cutting from March to the end of August. You can read their advice on garden nests.

We still clear gardens in spring and summer, we just check every hedge, bramble patch and shrub before it gets cut. If there's an active nest, that section waits. From September to February there's far less to work around, which makes autumn and winter the easiest time to book a big clearance.

Watch a real clearance

We film a lot of our clearances from start to finish, including a full hillside in Kidwelly and inherited house gardens in Llanelli, so you can see exactly what we do before you book.

After the clearance

Keep it that way

Once a garden's cleared, it grows back quicker than you'd think. Most of our clearance customers move onto a garden maintenance plan or regular lawn mowing, so it never gets back to where it started. If you manage a site, business park or holiday park, have a look at our commercial grounds maintenance.

Garden clearance FAQs

Common questions

How much does a garden clearance cost in Carmarthenshire?

Every clearance is priced on its own, because two gardens the same size can be completely different amounts of work. We look at the size, how thick the growth is, access for the van and how much waste will come out, then give you a fixed price in writing after a free site visit. Waste removal is priced on your quote, or included when you book a whole day, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

How long does a garden clearance take?

Most domestic clearances take one to three days, depending on the size of the garden and how overgrown it is. A small back garden can often be done in a day. We'll tell you how long we expect it to take when we quote, so you can plan around it.

Do you take the garden waste away?

Yes. We're a registered waste carrier with Natural Resources Wales, so all the green waste leaves with us and goes to a licensed site. You don't need to hire a skip or do any runs to the tip.

Do you dig out roots and tree stumps?

No. We cut everything back to ground level or low stumps, which is what most clearances need. Digging out roots is a much heavier job with different kit, so we leave it out of our quotes and say so in writing, so there are no surprises.

Can you clear a garden during bird nesting season?

Yes, but carefully. Between March and August we check hedges, brambles and shrubs for active nests before we cut, because damaging an active nest is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. If we find one, we work around it and come back for that section once the birds have gone.

Do I need to be home while you clear the garden?

No, as long as we can get into the garden. A lot of our clearances are at empty, inherited or rented properties where the owner lives away, so we're used to it. We can send you photos when it's finished.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry £5 million public liability insurance on every job and can send you proof of cover before we start.
