What a garden tidy up covers

One visit, the whole garden

A garden tidy up is a one-off visit that gets a scruffy garden looking cared for again. We go round the whole thing, front and back, rather than just doing one job.

Lawn cut and edges

Grass cut, edges trimmed sharp and clippings put in your green bin or taken away, so the lawn looks looked after again.

Hedges and shrubs trimmed

Hedges cut to shape and shrubs tidied, with all the clippings cleared up, not left in the border.

Beds and borders weeded

Weeds out of beds and borders, dead growth cut back and edges defined.

Leaves and debris cleared

Leaves raked and blown off lawns, paths, patios and drives, and taken away with everything else.

Paths and patios

Weeds pulled from cracks and joints and the hard surfaces blown off clean.

Green waste taken away

Everything we cut leaves with us, taken by a registered waste carrier. Nothing left bagged up by the bins.

When people book us

Why people book a tidy up

Selling your house

A tidy garden photographs better and makes a better first impression on viewings.

End of a tenancy

For tenants chasing a deposit back and landlords getting a property ready to relet.

After winter

A spring reset to get the lawn, beds and edges ready for the year ahead.

Before an event

A party, a wedding, family coming to stay. Garden ready on the day, not the week after.

Tidy up or clearance?

Which one do you need?

If it's properly overgrown, with brambles or grass you can't walk through, you'll want a garden clearance instead.

Not sure which one you need? Here's the difference. Send us photos and we'll tell you straight.

What a tidy up looks like each season

Hedges are the one thing that changes most. The RSPB recommends avoiding hedge cutting from March to August while birds are nesting, and damaging an active nest is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. You can read the RSPB's advice on garden nests.

Autumn (September to November)

Leaf clearance, cutting back perennials, the main hedge cut now nesting season's over, and a last cut before winter.

Winter (December to February)

Hard pruning, tidying borders and paths, and a good time to cut back hedges before birds start nesting again.

Spring (March to May)

Lawn back into shape, beds weeded and edged, everything set up for the growing season. Hedges get a nest check first.

Summer (June to August)

Keeping on top of growth before a holiday, an event or a sale. Light hedge trims only, after checking for nests.

How it works

Booking a tidy up in four steps

  1. Get in touch

Quote form, phone call or a text with a few photos. Tell us if you've got a deadline.

  2. We take a look

Usually a quick visit so we can see the garden and give you an accurate price.

  3. Fixed written price

One clear price for the visit, with waste removal priced on your quote, no contract.

  4. Tidy up day

We get it done, take everything away and leave the garden looking cared for.

Green waste

We take it all away

Waste removal is priced on your quote, or included when you book a whole day. In Wales, householders have a legal duty to only hand their waste to a registered waste carrier, and you can be fined £300 if it ends up fly-tipped by someone who isn't. Natural Resources Wales explains it in their guidance for householders.

We're registered, so you're covered.

After the tidy up

Want it to stay tidy?

A one-off tidy up is a great place to start. If you'd rather not be back here in three months, our garden maintenance plans keep it that way with regular visits, or we can just do your lawn mowing. For lawns that need more than a cut, see our lawn care treatments.

Garden tidy up FAQs

Common questions

How much does a garden tidy up cost?

It depends on the size of the garden and what needs doing, so we price every tidy up individually. We'll usually pop round to have a look first so we can give you a fixed price in writing. Waste removal is priced on your quote, or included when you book a whole day. No hourly rate creeping up while you watch.

How long does a garden tidy up take?

Most tidy ups are done in a single visit. Bigger gardens or ones that need a lot of hedge work can take longer, and we'll tell you exactly how long we expect when we quote.

What's the difference between a garden tidy up and a garden clearance?

A tidy up is for a garden that still works but looks scruffy: lawn, edges, hedges, beds and leaves, usually done in one visit. A garden clearance is for a garden that's properly overgrown, with brambles, long grass or hedges that have taken over, and usually takes one to three days.

Do you need to use my electricity or water?

No. All our kit is petrol powered and we bring everything with us, so we don't need a socket, an extension lead or your outside tap. We just need to be able to get into the garden.

Can you tidy my garden before I sell or move out?

Yes, it's one of the most common reasons people book us. A tidy front and back garden makes a big difference to photos and viewings, and it helps at the end of a tenancy too. Let us know your deadline when you get in touch and we'll do our best to fit around it.

When is the best time of year for a garden tidy up?

Autumn and early spring are the busiest. Autumn is ideal for clearing leaves, cutting back perennials and doing the main hedge cut once nesting season is over, and the RSPB recommends cutting hedges between September and February. Spring is about getting the lawn and beds ready for the year.

Can I book regular visits after the tidy up?

Yes. Plenty of customers start with a one-off tidy up and then move onto one of our garden maintenance plans, so the garden stays the way we left it. There's no obligation either way.
