CASE STUDY: GARDEN TIDY UP

Front Garden Tidy Up That Uncovered a Victorian Border

Grass past your knees, three self seeded trees growing across the driveway and a path you couldn't see. Under it all was an old Victorian border somebody had put real work into years ago.

What we walked into

The front garden had been left long enough for trees to seed themselves across the driveway. The grass was past knee height and the path had vanished.

Two hours later the trees were out, the grass was down and the path was back. Along the edge we found an old Victorian border that had been completely hidden.

Worth knowing

Deal with self seeded trees early

Self seeded trees like sycamore and ash are easy to pull as seedlings, but a few years later they're rooted into the drive and need cutting. Catching them in a yearly tidy up saves damage to paving and walls.

Older houses often have original edging and borders under years of growth. We go carefully along edges for exactly that reason.
