What we walked into
New owners, new keys, and a garden nobody had touched in a long time. The grass was up to your waist, bamboo was pushing through the fence from next door, and the neighbour told us he'd seen rats running through it.
Half a day got it back under control. The owner had his own van, so he took the waste himself and saved on the price.

| Where | Pontyberem |
| The job | Overgrown garden clearance for new owners |
| Time on site | Half a day |
| Price | £300 |
| Waste | Owner removed it in his own van |
| Watch out for | Bamboo spreading from next door |
Step by step
Cut the long grass
Waist high grass cut down in stages so we could see the ground.
Clear the edges
Growth cleared back from the fences and steps.
Cut the bamboo
Bamboo canes cut back to the fence line.
Pile for the owner
Waste gathered up ready for the owner to take away in his van.
Why cutting bamboo does nothing on its own
Bamboo spreads underground through runners. Cutting the canes tidies it up, but it will be back through that fence unless a root barrier goes in along the boundary.
If you've just moved in and the garden is overgrown, getting it cut down early also takes away the cover that attracts rats.
