How much will a new lawn cost?
Short answer: new turf costs £18 per square metre with us, all in, with a £400 minimum. That's the old lawn cut out and taken away, the ground prepared, the turf supplied, laid and watered in. A 40 m² lawn comes to about £720 to £830. Measure up below for your own figure.

Or, if you already know it, enter the total area (this overrides the measurements above):
Lawn area:
Estimated price
- Old lawn or weeds cut out and taken away
- Ground raked, levelled and firmed
- Good quality turf supplied
- Turf laid tight with staggered joints
- Watered in, with aftercare advice
This is an estimate, not a quote. Send a few photos and you'll get a fixed price in writing, usually the same day and always within 24 hours.
How the estimate works
- Your area. Length times width for each area you add, all added together. If you measure in feet, it converts to square metres for you. If you type in a total, that's used instead.
- The price. Your area times £18, rounded to the nearest £10. The range runs from that figure up to about 15% more, and your fixed price comes once we've seen photos of the lawn.
- Small lawns. If it works out at £400 or less, you'll see our £400 minimum.
- Turf rolls. Your area plus 5% for cutting in around edges and curves, rounded up, based on standard 1 m² rolls.
- Included. Old lawn or weeds cut out and taken away, ground raked, levelled and firmed, turf supplied, laid tight with staggered joints and watered in, with aftercare advice.
- Not included. Digging out roots or stumps, major levelling, retaining walls, drainage works, patios, paths or edging.

How to measure your lawn
Measure the length and the width of the area in metres and multiply them together. A lawn 8 metres long and 5 metres wide is 40 square metres.
If the lawn isn't a simple rectangle, split it into rectangles, measure each one and add them up. The calculator lets you add as many areas as you like.

Common questions
How much does turfing cost?
We charge £18 per square metre including the turf, preparing the ground, laying it and taking the old lawn away, with a £400 minimum. A 40m² lawn comes to about £720 to £830.
How much turf do I need?
Multiply the length by the width of each area in metres to get square metres. Standard rolls are 1m², so order that many rolls plus about 5% extra for cutting in around edges and curves. The calculator works it out for you.
How do I measure an odd shaped lawn?
Split it into rectangles, measure each one and add them up. Use “Add another area” in the calculator for each rectangle. For curves, measure to the widest point and the bit of extra covers the cutting in.
When is the best time to lay turf?
Autumn and spring, when the soil is warm and moist and the roots knit in quickly. Summer turfing works, but it needs a lot more watering.
How long before I can walk on new turf?
Keep off it for two to three weeks while it roots. Lift a corner gently, and if it holds, it's rooting in.
Is the old lawn removal included?
Yes. Cutting out the old turf and weeds and taking it away is included in the £18 per m². We don't dig out roots or stumps.
Is turf or seed better?
Turf gives you a finished lawn on the day. Seed, as part of a lawn renovation, costs less than half as much at £7.80 per m² but takes a few weeks to fill in.
Can I use this calculator outside Carmarthenshire?
For measuring, yes. The area and the number of rolls work for any lawn in the UK. The £18 per m² is our own price for lawns we lay across Kidwelly, Llanelli, Burry Port, Carmarthen and nearby, so prices from other firms elsewhere will be different.
