What we walked into
A privet hedge in Burry Port, about 15 metres long, taken down from about 15 foot to about 4 foot, with the sides tidied up. The tree next to it was cut back to the line of the wall at the top and shaped.
All the cuttings were moved to the back of the garden and left there, so no waste was taken away on this one.
Done in Burry Port in October 2026.

Step by step
Take the height down
About 15 metres of privet taken from roughly 15 foot down to about 4 foot.
Tidy the sides
The sides cut back and tidied to suit the new height.
Cut the tree back
The tree cut back to the line of the wall at the top and shaped.
Stack the cuttings
Every cutting moved to the back of the garden and left there, as agreed.
Will privet survive being cut that hard?
Yes. Privet handles a hard cut back well, but it will look bare and twiggy for a while before it regrows. It usually fills back in over the next growing season.
Before a cut this big, make sure you have the right to cut the whole hedge, including any part on or over a neighbour's boundary, and have a word with the neighbours first.
