What lawn mowing costs across the UK

For comparison, Checkatrade's grass cutting cost guide, last updated in May 2026, puts the UK average for residential lawn mowing at around £30 an hour, or about £30 per 100 m² of grass. Prices vary a lot from one area to the next and between companies that charge by the hour and companies that charge by the cut, so treat that as a rough guide rather than a quote.

We price by the cut rather than by the hour, so you know what each visit costs before we turn up.

What changes the price of a cut

  • Size. A small front lawn takes a fraction of the time of a big back lawn, and most of the price is time on site.
  • How long since the last cut. A lawn on a fortnightly round is quick to keep on top of. One that's been left for months has to be brought down in stages, so the first cut takes a lot longer. We explain why in how we save an overgrown lawn.
  • Edges. Strimming and edging along borders, paths and fences adds time, especially on a lawn with lots of beds cut into it.
  • Clippings. You've got three options. We can put them in your green bin on site, take them away for a fee, or mulch them back into the lawn. Taking them away is the only one that costs extra.

Regular rounds, same day cuts and lawns that need more

A regular round

Most of our lawns are on a fortnightly round, from £30 a cut and most at £35. Being on a round is what keeps the price down, because the grass never gets away from us between visits. If you're wondering whether fortnightly is often enough, our guide how often should you cut your lawn goes through it using RHS guidance.

Same day cutting

If you need it cut today, for a party, a viewing or new guests arriving, book same day grass cutting by 12 midday and we'll fit you in if we can. It's two to three times the normal price, so a lawn that's normally £35 would be roughly £70 to £105.

When a cut isn't enough

If the lawn is thin, mossy or full of bare patches, mowing it more often won't fix it. Lawn renovation is £7.80 per m² with a £400 minimum, and if it's past saving, new turf is £18 per m² laid. Our turfing cost calculator gives you a rough figure for your own lawn.

Lawn mowing cost FAQs

Lawn mowing prices: your questions

How much does it cost to have a lawn mowed?

Our lawn mowing starts from £30 a cut, and most lawns are £35 a cut on a fortnightly round. You get a fixed price for your lawn before the first cut.

How much is same day grass cutting?

Same day cutting is two to three times the normal price, and you need to book by 12 midday. It depends on whether we can fit you in that day.

Do you take the grass clippings away?

Only if you want us to. We can put them in your green bin on site, take them away for a fee, or mulch them back into the lawn.

Why does an overgrown lawn cost more to cut?

Because it takes a lot longer. Long grass has to be brought down in stages rather than scalped in one go, so the first cut costs more than a regular cut on a round.

How much does lawn renovation or new turf cost?

Lawn renovation is £7.80 per m² with a £400 minimum. New turf is £18 per m² laid. Send us photos and a rough size and we'll tell you which one your lawn needs.
